April Newsletter

Vol. 4 | April 2025

April is National Cancer Prevention and Detection Month, a great time to step up your skin cancer early detection game.

Here are some easy ways to start: Set monthly calendar reminders for your skin self-exams and make an appointment with a dermatologist for your annual skin cancer screening.

If you’re not sure how to do a self-exam, we’ve got you covered. Our early detection campaign, The Big See®, gives you three things to look for: NEW, CHANGING or, UNUSUAL, to help simplify the process. Download the self-exam guide here. If you see anything new, changing or unusual on your skin, don’t wait. Be sure to get it looked at by a dermatologist as soon as possible. Remember, when found and treated early, skin cancers are highly curable.

May Is Skin Cancer Awareness Month!

Are you ready for Skin Cancer Awareness Month?  We are excited to educate people around the world throughout May, when skin cancer awareness is at its peak. We hope you’ll join us! Together, we can reach more people and save more lives. You can #SharetheFacts about skin cancer by downloading graphics from our Skin Cancer Awareness Toolkit during Skin Cancer Awareness Month and all year long.

This month’s theme is #SkinCancerIsPersonal. Skin cancer may be the world’s most common cancer, but it affects each of us in different ways, physically, emotionally and financially. No two journeys are the same. If you’d like to share your skin cancer story, be sure to tag us @skincancerorg so that we can reshare! You can also submit your story on our website, or use our Storyvine app to create a video.

Thank You to All Who Helped Save DHS!

We’re thrilled to announce that we have reached our Save Destination Healthy Skin $500,000 fundraising goal, and have purchased a new RV for our mobile skin cancer screening and education program!

From the campaign kickoff at our 2024 Champions for Change Gala, to donor appeals, to individual fundraising campaigns, corporate donations and social media challenges, the Foundation’s entire community of physicians, donors, partners and advocates rallied around Save Destination Healthy Skin. It was a tremendous journey with a truly inspiring end result — saving a program that saves lives.

To everyone who supported the Save Destination Healthy Skin campaign, WE THANK YOU!

What’s That? It’s Our New RV!

Destination Healthy Skin (DHS), our mobile skin cancer screening and education program, will be back on the road this month!

The program kicks off on April 21 in Illinois and will continue through the fall, visiting communities around the United States to provide free skin cancer screenings, educational information and sun protection products. Check our schedule to see if we will be in your town this year.

April Is National Volunteer Month

During National Volunteer Month and every month of the year, we are grateful to our volunteer dermatologists who make Destination Healthy Skin, and all of our education programs, possible. We are also fortunate to have a wonderful community of skin cancer warriors and healthy skin champions who volunteer their time to share their stories, amplify our educational messages and spread skin cancer awareness. Every good thing we do is all because of you!
