The incidence of skin cancer is increasing in epidemic proportions worldwide.  In the United States there are currently more than one million new cases of skin cancer diagnosed each year, and that figure is rising steadily.  Skin cancer is responsible for 11,000 deaths annually.  It accounts for many millions of dollars in health care costs and loss of worker productivity.  This governing body will, therefore, consider the implications for skin cancer prevention in the development of future policies and plans and will incorporate appropriate short- and long-term strategies.
