- Schedule outdoor sporting competitions for early morning and late afternoon (avoiding the peak hours from 10 am to 4 pm) where possible.
- Protect employees by scheduling maintence on outdoor areas for early morning or late afternoon and evening; indoor or shaded areas can be attended to during peak sunlight hours.
- Ensure that no facilities that increase the risk of skin cancer -- such as tanning parlors -- exist within community-operated recreational centers.
Action plan:
Consider the health-conscious users of recreational center facilities a receptive audience for lectures or workshops on sun protection. Invite members of the local medical society or medical center to speak on skin cancer prevention and detection; schedule skin cancer screenings to be held at the recreational center.
