The Skin Cancer Foundation is committed to educating the public and medical professionals about sun safety. As leaders in the fight against skin cancer, the Foundation is the only global organization solely devoted to the prevention, detection and treatment of the world’s most common cancer. The mission of the Foundation is to decrease the incidence of skin cancer through public and professional education and research. We work to:

  • Control the epidemic
  • Prevent skin cancers through public education campaigns about the need for sun protection all year around from birth to old age
  • Change public attitudes towards tanning and sun exposure and encourage detection of skin cancers at the earliest stage when they are almost always curable
  • Improve skin cancer care by offering physician education programs
  • Support research into new diagnostic and treatment therapies
  • Focus attention on melanoma, the most life-threatening of the skin cancers
  • Teach children and their caregivers about the importance of developing appropriate sun protection behavior early in life
  • Promote public education programs abroad.

The Skin Cancer Foundation achieves its mission through nationwide public and professional education programs aimed at increasing sun-protective behaviors, early detection programs, and effective treatment.
